Crystal Chords Chorus is proudly directed by the husband-wife team of Bill and Donna McKay.
Bill McKay was a long time barbershopper from Canada before moving to the Corning area in 1991. Bill has been a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for thirty-nine years. His love of singing began in the early fifties as a young church choir soloist in Toronto, leading into his teen years playing guitar and harmonizing with his father.
In 1979, barbershop harmony entered his life and he became hooked on four part a cappella. He sang with the local barbershop chorus for twelve years before moving to Corning NY. The following year, his wife Donna and her long time singing friend Anne Leinen decided to form a women’s chorus in the Corning Elmira area. Bill’s chorus experience was about to be put to the test with his invitation to direct their new women’s group.
Many years later, Crystal Chords is still going strong and Bill is still enthusiastically waving his arms.
Donna McKay is a founding member of Crystal Chords. She first discovered her passion and love for barbershop harmony 37 years ago and quickly found herself in her first quartet. Throughout her barbershop career, Donna has won three international quartet championships in Harmony, Incorporated, an international organization of women barbershop singers. Donna is a 35-year member of Harmony, Inc., where she currently serves as the International President. Besides directing, Donna also serves as Tenor Section Leader.
Nominated by her Crystal Chords sisters, Donna is proud to be the 2016 recipient of the Area 3 Kay DeLong Award for her service to chapter and community, and for embodying the spirit of Harmony, Inc.
